An estimate based on your answers, not legal advice or a prediction of a court decision.

A starting point for your discussion

What does a divorce calculator estimate?

Split Suggest is a free Australian property settlement calculator for people exploring separation or working through a property split. It uses your assets, debts, superannuation and circumstances to produce an explained indicative range.

It estimates a share of the combined net property pool. It does not calculate divorce filing fees, child support or a guaranteed legal entitlement.

A divorce ends a marriage. Dividing property is a separate matter. Read the court’s property and finances overview.

    Look inside before you begin

From your property picture to an explained range.

Your report brings the estimate, its explanation and the information it uses together. This public example uses invented figures only.

    A fictional property pool

    Assets outside super
    $900,000
    Less debts
    −$350,000
    Plus both people’s super
    $250,000
    Combined net property pool
    $800,000

For the sample 45–55% range above, multiply $800,000 by 45% and 55% to get $360,000–$440,000.

This demonstrates the dollar calculation only. Asset totals alone cannot determine a settlement percentage. The amount includes super and is not all available cash.

    What your own report explains

    1. 01

      Your indicative position

Your range and dollar estimate, with a working midpoint as a reference within the range.

    2. 02

      What’s in the estimate

How your financial, homemaking and parenting contributions and current circumstances informed the result.

    3. 03

      What we based it on

The facts supplied, property breakdown and uncertainty to understand before relying on the figures.

    How to read a range

The range reflects the tool’s assessment of the information supplied. Its width is not a statistical confidence interval or a probability of court approval. A working midpoint is not a recommendation to settle at that figure. Read the explanation and uncertainty alongside the number.

    What information will I need?

Have the overall picture for both people in mind. Approximate values can help you start where the form allows them; complete, supported figures matter when preparing an agreement.

    • Your relationship: its length, separation circumstances, children and care arrangements.
    • Assets and debts: property, savings, investments, vehicles, mortgages, loans and other liabilities.
    • Superannuation: both people’s current interests, balances and fund types.
    • Contributions: what each person brought in or contributed, including income, gifts, inheritances, homemaking and parenting.
    • Current circumstances: ages, income, earning capacity, health and care responsibilities.

Include information about individually and jointly held property. Don’t assume something is irrelevant just because it is in one person’s name.

How the tool treats debts and super

The tool excludes HECS-HELP debt from its pool calculation by default. That is a modelling choice, not a ruling about your liabilities. Current super values are included once in the combined pool. Complex interests, such as defined benefit funds, pensions or SMSFs, can make the pool provisional and need professional valuation.

How does Split Suggest calculate the estimate?

Split Suggest combines a property-pool calculation with an AI-generated assessment of your answers. The software calculates the pool and dollar amounts; AI produces the percentage range and its explanation.

    1. Build the property picture

The tool adds the entered assets and current super balances, then subtracts included debts to calculate the combined net property pool.

    2. Consider the circumstances you describe

AI uses your relationship information, contributions and current and future circumstances to generate an indicative percentage range and identify uncertainty.

    3. Show the range in context

The software checks the response’s structure and arithmetic, then applies the percentage bounds to the pool. These checks do not verify your facts or establish legal accuracy.

    Model limits and uncertainty

The current model limits percentage ranges to 20%–80%. This is a product constraint, not a legal limit. Unusual situations may fall outside its model. Missing information may widen factor ranges or lower the support for the estimate; it does not always change the percentage.

AI can misunderstand information or produce errors. We do not claim that the range has been independently validated against court outcomes. No lawyer reviews your automated estimate as part of this free report.

    Understand property settlement factors

When is an estimate not enough?

Get individual advice if facts are disputed, assets are missing, there are businesses, trusts or complex super interests, or you are unsure which law applies. The report does not verify documents, resolve ownership disputes or confirm your eligibility or time limits.

If there is family violence, coercion or pressure to agree, a calculator cannot assess the situation safely or determine its legal effect. Seek specialist support and advice rather than using the estimate to negotiate a split.

The court’s approach includes contributions and future circumstances, including relevant effects of family violence. See the court’s explanation.

Do not use a percentage in isolation to decide whether to sign an agreement.

    Common questions about divorce calculators

    Is the divorce calculator free?

Yes. Split Suggest and its property settlement estimate are free. You do not need to buy a consent-order package to receive your report. Any later consent-order service has separate fees.

Is property automatically split 50/50 in Australia?

No. There is no automatic 50/50 split or fixed legal formula. Contributions and each person's current and future circumstances matter. The court considers whether proposed property orders are just and equitable.

Can I use it if we were de facto or are not divorced yet?

The form accepts married and de facto relationship information, including people exploring separation. It does not establish whether you meet legal eligibility requirements. De facto matters in Western Australia follow a different legal framework, so seek advice specific to that jurisdiction. Divorce and property settlement are separate processes.

    Does the estimate include superannuation?

Yes. Split Suggest includes entered current super balances in the combined net property pool. The dollar range includes super, so it is not all available cash. A percentage estimate does not arrange a super transfer or replace the valuation and formal steps needed for a super split.

    What can change my estimate?

Different property values, omitted debts, contributions, income, care arrangements or other circumstances can change the estimate. Missing or disputed facts can also change the explanation and its uncertainty. The result relies on your answers; financial documents are not verified.

Will my former partner receive my report?

Your former partner is not automatically sent your report. You receive a private report link. Anyone with that link can view the report, so only share it if you intend to give access. See the expiry shown with your report link.

Is the report an agreement or a consent order?

No. The report is an automated estimate, not legal advice, an agreement or a court order. If you reach an agreement, you can consider applying for property consent orders. The court must approve the proposed orders before they become binding court orders.
